Menu posts save your menu settings.
In this post type you will find a "Menu" tab, from here you can select which posts display in your menu.
If a website has no menu posts, any header that includes a menu will display an auto-generated menu. The auto-generated menu will list all pages in the proper hierarchy, but exclude the homepage and the pages that typically appear in the footer.
